Clark was, as most of the lads of his time, quite competent with the rifle and woodmanship. Folks now say the times have passed where boys need to be competent with their firearms. The NCA takes violent issue with that notion, our nation still being defended by its volunteer youth and the armies to which they join themselves. Had our sovereign citizens continued with the firearms education, and had gun control not begun with the disarmament of the minority races on this continent, the misuse of guns would not now be an issue. We lay the blood of the dead in schools and crime at the feet of the gun controllers and would give anything to see them taken to court over the matter. Why not sue them at law for their responsibility in this matter of those who owe their death to firearms control and victim disarmament if overweight people and smokers can take retail businesses to the law for their excesses?
In the Colonial north east there were private and public schools. In fact, the famous American Indian we knew as Joseph Brant (Thayendanegea) received his formal education, a quite thorough one, at one such private school. Homeschooling for girls was the norm but not universal. Lincoln, regardless of what we think of him, had an incredible home-school background. Education was either "nil," home-school, privately arranged, or controlled completely by the local school board. The nation grew.
In the midwest, once it was settled, boys came to schools with their guns when they were expected to gather game on the way to and from school. Their instructors, as in the case of Kansas Normal schools, were taught as teachers for 6 months after high school, then went on to teach in the country schools. The education was, again, controlled completely by the local school board or town. There was no such thing as "national standards," a concept so foreign to the Founding Fathers as to probably have incited another duel like that of Burr and Hamilton, should it have happened at that time.
Firearm education was done at home. Firearms were a tool and respected completely as such. The American youth were so accomplished at their use as to be of concern to the foreign enemies we faced. Children did not shoot children or others. Fist-fights, yes, gun misuse was unheard of.
My grandfather was certified by his Missouri town school board as competent to enter the University with the following accomplishments on his certification paper:
Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry (Plane), Geometry (Solid), Physics, U.S. History, General History, English Grammar, English Composition, German (2 terms), Latin I (Grammar), Latin II (Reader), Latin III (Caesar 4 books), Latin IV (Composition), Latin V (Cicero 2 orations),Latin VI (Aenoid and Horace), Lockwoods English, Rhetoric, English Language, Physical Geography, and Civil Government (Civics).
Of course, you say, who needs that kind of education? Actually, WE DO!!! The human brain begs for programming in the formative years. It has been shown that the human brain, abandoned to TV and "outcome based education," manages to disconnect a high percentage of the neural nets it came with by the time the child is 6, should the nets not be challenged at home. This loss continues in school.
The damage done by our modern education system is easily measured by the remedial courses required now in Junior Colleges to retrain human brains wasted by elementary and secondary education. I liken the process to the retraining of a stroke victim. Ask yourself why Junior Colleges need 100 sections of remediation in Math and English for a population of 8000 students NOW, when in 1950 there were NONE? Is that your definition of "progress?" Or is that a measure of the total failure of our system. Then watch Jay Leno and his questions on the street? If it were not so horribly sad, it should be funny, when people do not even know who we fought in the Civil War.
My grandfather's contemporaries were folks like Patton, Eisenhower, Bradley, MacArthur, Robert Goddard, Willard Libby and MILLIONS of folks now unknown except to their genealogically hungry families. These were the folks who prosecuted the First and Second World Wars, developed American Industry, fought 2 wars at once, and, by the way, formulated such engines of industry as Hewlett Packard, IBM, the airplane, &c.Up to this point, schooling was the sole responsibility of the local school boards. They determined the curriculum, teachers, salaries, facilities. They determined the curriculum by their local needs, and the needs of industry and the outcomes of successful matriculation. They were also in total compliance with the U.S. Constitution, most of the members having a thorough acquaintance with the courses called "Civics, "US Government," &c.
Enter the Bolsheviks and "Progressive Education" in the 1920s and
1930s. Rather than try to cover that, please click on
Quite a number of public schools had indoor and/or outdoor rifle ranges. A number of schools also had rifle teams. I personally obtained my Certified Rifle Instructor "ticket" through the coach of one such school, an industrial arts teacher who was also a master instructor for the NRA. Here is a picture of just one very typical indoor range.

At this point, schools provided a great number of marksmen to the national and international competitions. But the situation was actually perfect for the Bolsheviks that were streaming out of the Universities and into the schools. They had more and more control over the ranges and the curricula. Enter the NEA (originally a professional organization in the early 60s much like the IRE that became the IEEE). The NEA morphed into a Union, merged with the AFT, and took total control of the state legislatures, then Congress, via massive lobbying efforts. Hand in hand, or hand on ear, the NEA and its statists fueled the paranoia about firearms, loaded feminist influence over all education, destroyed the rifle-ranges, and the Patriotic curricula of the schools. I should hope we need not rehearse to you the citations of quotes by the leaders of Marxism about who controls the nations by controlling their children? Or citations by Adolph Hitler to the same end?
So what now? The best we can do at NCA is to encourage you to either home school your children, and train them, either yourself or through the NRA, in the proper use of firearms, or send to a private school, even one which still maintains riflery as sport. If you did not know it, riflery is an extremely difficult sport, requiring incredible self control. The benefits to the concentration, much less the satisfaction, of the child are just inestimable in value.
Another tactic of the anti-gunners is to feminize America. The notion that the feminine mind destests fire-arms, violence and the likes, is not totally trivial, nor is it in any way "sexist." The Creator made right and left brains to complement one another in marriage teams. Too much right brain, or, as the oriental arts describe it, Yin, and you have mis-balance. The motherly instinct is incredibly powerful. Because of that, and deliberate feminization of America, there is an enormous amount of momentum in movements like "Million-Mother March." The appeal is made to their mind that guns are "bad." We found an incredible essay that shows just how powerful the effect of "feminization" is on our military in combat. We have included a button below leading to Lt. General West's predicament, described in an incredibly well researched essay entitled "Lt.Col. West and the Feminization of American Culture ©."
Several of us have heard lectures by John Taylor Gatto. The man, a former teacher, is the most wonderful anti government-school speaker in America and leaves NO stone un-turned in his systematic analysis of the failings of government schools. We have installed a connection to his site just below. [CJJ - 2005]
Here are some of our groups essays and points about education, home school, readying our children for the savage nation the tyranny portends, and possible ways to locally change things in our schools if we should wish to try. Here also are some links to other sites whose information is truly meritorious in our quest to re-coup our Republic.
