Behind the old State House in Boston was Dassett Alley (now Franklin Avenue). Here you would have found the Edes and Gill printing office. The first floor was devoted primarily to a little hand press, the few fonts of type and the small office of the greatest paper in NEW ENGLAND, the Boston Gazette. It was here that Paul Revere created his famous copper plates and engaged very occasional advertising about his products.

Above the shop was a "long room," and here it was that the small group of men who are thought to have been the earliest of the secret clubs that brought on the Revolution assembled. THE LONG ROOM is said to have begun in 1762. No records were kept because they were too close to treason. Thus it is that some of the North Caucus members in this era mention The Long Room in various of their warnings. We of the present North Caucus have no fear of treason since we are refusing to submit to all the treason that is trying to remove from us our 200 year old Republic and our sovereignty to which these men subscribed.

Among the known members were Sam Adams, leader, the "Great Leviathon" James Otis, Joseph Warren, Paul Revere, John Hancock, Benjamin Church (who turned traitor during the Revolution), the Coopers, Reverend Samuel, Josia Quincy, Royall Tyler (America's first dramatisist), Tom Dawes, and many others. The Long Room Club, made up of North Caucus men was primarily attended by Harvard Graduates, though Paul Revere was not so lettered.

During the night these men "cooked up" their paragraphs, smoked their pipes, while below them, the press patiently awaited their notes to pass on their thoughts, hopes, and ideals.

One of their most critical duties was to direct the largest and most mysterious "club" of all, the Sons of Liberty , who were refered to as a mob, yes, but as a "trained mob," by the English newspapers.

It is the goal of the present North Caucus to at least publish essays and locations of essays pertaining to the RESURRECTION of our Republic to the form in which it entered this world, namely that proscribed by the Bill of Rights, the Consitution, and the Founding Fathers. To have some small part in that process would be the greatest blessing that could be confered upon those of us who participate, and our participation is without regard to any costs that might be "counted" should we be deemed worthy to be confronted by the tyranny.

Our "Gazette" is, therefore, a source of education on a number of Constitutional subjects. We do not apologize for the appearance of intractablility any more than the North Caucus then apologized. In fact their encouraging of the scattering of human feces on the buildings of their tyrants is an act for which you might thank us for our inaction thus far in this matter. However do not consider that inactivity as evidence of some 'rule' to which the present NCA adheres.
